Alright, kitchen warriors, let’s do this!

Ingredients

- 125g (8 tbsp) unsalted butter

- 1 cup brown sugar (light brown sugar also works, but not dark brown)

- 1 large egg (~50g / 2 oz)

- 1 tsp vanilla extract

- 1 cup plain/all-purpose flour

- 1/4 tsp cooking salt / kosher salt (use half if using table salt)

Add-ins – 1 1/2 cups of just about anything you think will taste good, but who doesn’t love white chocolate chips  ( 1 cup or more), roughly chopped walnuts (1/2 cup)

Optional Sprinkling:

- 1/4 tsp sea salt flakes

 Method

  1. Preheat and Prep – Crank that oven up to 180°C/350°F (or 160°C for the fancy fan-forced folks). Grease a 20 cm/8" square pan with butter and line it with baking paper (parchment paper, if you’re feeling official).
  2. Toast those Walnuts – Spread the walnuts on a tray and pop them in the oven for 5 minutes. No peeking! Once they’re golden and toasty, take them out and let them chill. Cheryl's pro tip: Toasted walnuts = next-level flavor.
  3. Brown That Butter (Seriously, don’t skip this!) – Melt your butter in a light-colored saucepan (I like silver—so chic). Once it’s all melty, turn the heat down a notch so it simmers gently. Stir (with a Dreamfarm Supoon of course!), every now and then, and in 3 to 4 minutes, it’ll smell all nutty and you’ll see those golden specks. That’s your cue to pour it into a bowl, making sure to get all those flavorful bits!
  4. Make the Batter– Toss the sugar into the hot, nutty butter and give it a good stir with with your supoon. Let it cool for a solid 3 minutes (you don’t want scrambled eggs in your batter!). Then, mix in the egg and vanilla. Next, add the flour and salt and stir it all together. The dough will be super thick—don’t panic, that’s how we like it. Fold in those chocolate chips and toasted walnuts. Yum!
  5. Bake It! – Scrape that glorious batter into your prepared pan and smooth the surface. (Yes, I use my hands. Go ahead, live a little!) Pop it in the oven for 25 minutes, or until the edges are a nice golden hue and the top has that dreamy crackly layer. Perfection.
  6. Rest & Devour– Let it sit in the pan for 10 minutes (I know, patience is hard). Then, lift it out using the baking paper and transfer it to a cutting board. Wait another 10 minutes—trust me, it’s worth it—before cutting into 9 giant squares. Sprinkle with salt flakes if you’re feeling fancy. Now, go ahead and dig in before someone else beats you to it!
